Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers appreciate their key fob's useful remote features. They can lock and unlock their car, start the motor, and even find it using an app on their smartphone.

Place the key fob's face up on an uncluttered surface. Locate the button that lets you release it, then wedge a coin between the fob and the cover and pull it up gently.

Unlocking the Door

Volvo's remote keyfobs let you unlock your vehicle's doors, tailgate and fuel filler flap with the push of the button. They also can switch on the ignition, trigger the alarm, and operate your sunroof if equipped. You'll never need to look for your keys or lose access to your vehicle.

You might not be aware of some key fob features that are not visible. One of them is an unlocked/lock button that you can press in the event the battery on your key fob goes out.

The key fob should be held with the Volvo logo facing up to press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button at the edge of your key fob, and gently press it. Utilizing a fingernail to carefully remove the cover on the back of the key fob. Under the cover on a diagonal, close to the edge of body, you should find an unidentified button. Slide it to the right. The cover will fall off, and then slide off, revealing the manual blade! If you're still unable to locate the button, you can search the newly revealed manual key access to see if there is a hidden slot or lever.

Closing the Windows

Volvo key fobs feature a hidden feature that allows you to instantly open all the windows. This is a fantastic feature to have when trying to squeeze into a tight parking spot, or even just when you're in need of fresh air inside the cabin while driving.

Press and Volvo key fob hold the unlocking button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows and the sunroof, if there is one. When you're done driving you can shut everything by pressing the lock button once more for four seconds.

Opening the Tailgate

If you own the Hands-Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped) You can open it using the key fob. Simply press the button to open it, then use the same button to close it when you're done.

Switching off the Alarm

Find a clean surface and lay out your key fob, battery, as well as any additional keys. Place the key fob in a place with the Volvo logo facing up and then find a small black button on the bottom left of the fob and slide it to the right. The cover should fall off and reveal the key blade's mechanical structure beneath.
